This review is all about the newly launched Sony Vaio W Netbook. Sony finally plunged also into the netbook market. Japanese electronics giant has just launched Sony Vaio W series, which is a line of netbook 10-inch sizes. As quoted from CNet site, Sony Netbook is reinforced with Intel Atom N280 processor, 1 GB RAM, Windows XP, and 160 GB hard disk, which is the average specification for a netbook.

What makes this netbook a bit different from other netbooks, it has a 1366×768 resolution screen, WiFi 802.11n connection, and of course, the price is more ‘premium’ than the netbook class.

This Netbook is 3.3 cm thick and weighing 1.1 kilograms and also provided with Memory Stick card slot, Bluetooth connectivity, and the finishing is equal to other Sony notebooks, which are usually handed keyboard and touchpad quality.

With Sony proprietary software, this netbook can also be connected with devices certified Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA), such as a Sony HDTV, PlayStation 3, or PSP portable game console. In the United States, this netbook price is USD 500.

This is a breakthrough step from Sony, which has been impressed very proud to come down to the netbook market. Previously, Sony had to have a computer Atom, namely Sony Vaio VGN P588e. But Sony did not want categorizes as a netbook, but called him a ‘Lifestyle PC’ and sell it at around USD 1000.

Netbook is experiencing a strong growth. Research firm Gartner estimates, netbook sales last year reached 5.3 units. In fact, overall computer sales are about 14 million units. No wonder if then Sony finally glanced at this segment.
